What is recorded here

On a broad ridge in County Leitrim, a boundary cairn still stands where County Cavan begins. The Ordinance Survey built it, and the 1907 map named it a Pile of Stones. Few of their markers survive there, making this one a rare witness to the line drawn across the land.

Situated on a broad E-W ridge. It is marked only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as a 'Pile of Stones' marking the boundary with County Cavan. This is one of about two cairns in this area erected by the Ordinance Survey, and very few of them are left. It is the same as (CV005-011----). A portal dolmen; likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its significance lies in its possible role as a territorial boundary marker and its survival as a rare example of a megalithic monument in the region.
