Philae Obelisk

Monument

What is recorded here

Philae Obelisk is shown as a monument on the public map of Dorset. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
The Philae Obelisk is a Roman-period sandstone obelisk originally from the island of Philae in Egypt, later brought to England in the 19th century. It is associated with Sir John Soane, who acquired it for his museum in London before it was transferred to Dorset; it is important as a rare example of ancient Egyptian architecture preserved in the UK outside major museum collections.
