This blue commemorative plaque records: Sir PETER THOMPSON FRS., FAS. (1698-1770) Native of Poole, Merchant, Antiquary, M.P. for St. Albans and High Sheriff of Surrey. Built this house in 1746 Recorded plaque organisation: Poole Borough Council.
Peter Thompson was a prominent 18th-century English merchant, antiquary, and politician known for his contributions to local governance and historical preservation; he served as an MP and High Sheriff, and was a Fellow of the Royal Society and American Philosophical Society.
