Pennypit Park in Prestonpans has a name that sounds like an invitation to search the grass for lost change, but the real prize is much easier to spot: a play area renewed in 2026 and a lively local sporting scene. This is a neighbourhood park for movement, meetings and repeated slide conquests. East Lothian Council's own report says the renewed play area opened in March 2026, with local schoolchildren helping mark the occasion. The equipment now includes different swing seats, a climbing frame aimed mainly at older children, a balance trail, an inclusive seesaw and a roundabout that can be used by wheelchair users. New soft surfacing and seating make the space more welcoming. The changes replaced worn-out equipment; no grand legend is needed. The park is near Rope Walk, where Preston Lodge Rugby Football Club also runs children's sessions at Pennypit Park. Check the club or council for arranged sport, because a session has its own time and organiser. The public play area itself is for an everyday stop, though adults should supervise children and check the equipment on arrival. The nearby Pennypit Centre has its own opening hours and booked activities; do not confuse its indoor timetable with access to the outdoor park. Bring a child, a ball, or simply your eyes for the bustle of a local place doing its job. Tom would like to promise a penny under every bench, but he has been banned from making financial forecasts since losing three coins in a drain. The reliable reward is a proper run around, fresh air and the chance to cheer somebody else's daring climb.
