Penmaen-Bach has an elevation of approximately 300 metres and forms part of the rugged mountainous terrain of the Snowdonia range in north Wales. It is composed primarily of Silurian greywacke and is located near the head of Llyn Penmaen, a glacial lake, reflecting the area's significant glacial history. The hill is locally significant as part of the natural landscape that contributes to the scenic and recreational value of the Conwy area.
