Peel Crags is a sea cliff composed primarily of Carboniferous sandstone, formed around 300 to 340 million years ago through sedimentary deposition in ancient river and delta systems. It is notable for its exposure of resistant rock layers that have withstood coastal erosion, providing insight into the geological history of Northumberland's coastline.
