Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Peden's Stone, Foulshiels as Covenanters Meeting Place (17th Century), Standing Stone (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Peden's Stone, Foulshiels is likely associated with the 17th-century Covenanters, who used such sites for secret religious gatherings during periods of persecution.
