Peadar Tóibín, born 19 June 1974 in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, is the youngest of seven siblings and the man who would go on to found Aontú and lead it from January 2019. He studied economics and politics at University College Dublin, completed a postgraduate qualification in enterprise at the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, and worked as an independent management consultant in Ireland and Scotland before becoming a Teachta Dála for Meath West in February 2011. He joined Sinn Féin in 1998 after leaving Fianna Fáil, which he later described as placing career ambition ahead of ideology, and he resigned from Sinn Féin on 15 November 2018 because of its stance on abortion.
