Site K, located 90m west of the main Newgrange mound, is a 20m diameter passage tomb with an 8m southern entrance and a triangular eastern annex. Built in two or three phases, its structural stones still bear megalithic art. It remained a quiet burial place beside the great mound, preserving the same ancient craft in a smaller, overlooked form.
Identified as Site K by O'Kelly (1978, 47). Situated some 90m W of main mound (ME019-045----) of Newgrange, this site, on excavation, was shown to be a mound, c. 20m in diam., containing an undifferentiated passage-tomb, 8m long opening to the S having a triangular annex or cell attached to E side of the chamber. Two, or possibly three, phases of construction were evident. A number of structural stones bear megalithic art (O'Kelly et. al. 1978, 249-352).
See attached pdf file which shows contour plan of Site K, taken from O'Kelly et. al. (1978, 253) and jpeg file which shows Google Earth aerial photo taken 12 July 2013.
