Parknahilly Grave Yd.

On a slight E-facing slope, on the floor of an E-W valley, in pasture. Named ‘Parknahilly Grave Yd.’ on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and ‘Parknahilly Children’s Burial Ground’ on the 1916 ed., where it is depicted as an unenclosed roughly rectangular area extending to the S of a field boundary. Listed as ‘Burial ground’ in the RMP (1996). This trapezoidal-shaped children's burial ground (max. L 14.5m; Wth of N side 14.5m; Wth of S side 20.8m) is defined by a drystone field boundary along the N side. The foundations of a later field wall cross its S extent. The E and W sides are unenclosed but another more recent N-S running field boundary is visible beyond the W limits. Burials are marked by uninscribed stones, a number of which are not set into the ground. Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Early Bronze Age. Its local significance is indicated by historical map references, though wider archaeological context remains unclear.
