Marked 'Cashelnagat' on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map the monument no longer survives. It was preserved as a bend in a field fence till some years ago. It was situated on a N-facing slope overlooking the Finn Valley in good pasture. A bullaun stone (DG077-032---) reported in a nearby field (DHS 624) was not seen on this occasion. See (DG077-008----.
Testing was carried out by Eoghan Kieran of Moore Archaeological and Environmental Services, under licence No. 06E1210 at Dooish, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal, on 28 November 2006. The work was undertaken in advance of the construction of five dwelling houses and associated site works. The development is c. 60m north of DG077–007--- and is considered to be an area of high archaeological potential. Eight test-trenches were excavated through the site. They encompassed the immediate development zone and an area 60m to the south. All trenches recorded a similar stratigraphic matrix and none recorded the presence of any archaeological material or deposits (Bennett 2009, 97).
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
