Enclosure in Dooish

About the turn of the century Cashel Corky at this site was destroyed. It was situated overlooking a ford across the River Finn on rocky land. It seems likely from local reports that it was a stone-built monument. Three test-trenches were opened by Mary Henry of Mary Henry Archaeological Services Ltd, under licence No. 07E0599 on the site of an extension to a national school in the townland of Dooish. The site is located just to the west of an enclosure site. Testing confirmed that areas behind the existing school had been infilled to a substantial depth, up to 1.4m deep, and landscaped in recent years. In contrast the natural deposition was encountered at 0.46m below ground level in the third opening. No archaeological features or remains were uncovered in any of the test-trenches (Bennett 2010, 77). The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.
