Oriel Glasfryn Gallery in Caerwys puts Welsh art into a purpose-built room beside Glasfryn Hall, then tempts you with a garden and an honesty-box drink. It is a useful reminder that a small town can hold a large range of makers; come ready to look beyond the first painting. Artist Dave Roberts opened the gallery in 2022 as a permanent home for his work alongside pieces by Welsh makers. Paintings and prints share the display with ceramics, textiles, jewellery, sculpture and glass. The gallery is separate from the older Glasfryn Hall, which hosts seasonal exhibitions and has its own access arrangements. The operator says its modern gallery building is accessible, while the hall has steps and is unsuitable for some visitors with limited mobility. That distinction is worth knowing before you set out to see a particular show. I suspect the paintings in the gallery send notes to the ceramics about who got the longest stare; the glasswork probably catches every message. The real reward is the variety. Move from colour on a canvas to a shaped object and notice how each maker has answered a different question about place, material or light. There is no need to agree with every answer to have a good visit. The gallery is on South Street in Caerwys and has on-site parking. The operator lists public opening through much of the week, but check its current page before travelling. Its self-serve café shares the gallery's hours; the hall, gardens and front lawn are open only during specified exhibition periods or by arrangement. Ask at the gallery if the hall is your aim. Otherwise, enjoy the art that is ready to welcome you.

This does not grant access. Check current paths, opening conditions and ownership before entering.
