This grey commemorative plaque records: OPERATION OVERLORD On the 5th June 1944 over 300 craft left the quays of Poole for the Normandy Landings
Operation Overlord was the codename for the Allied invasion of Western Europe in World War II, beginning with the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, which marked a pivotal turning point leading to the liberation of Nazi-occupied France and ultimately the defeat of Germany.
