Old Windmill stands as a circular three-storey shell on a Tuam ridge, built by Dr Hort, Bishop of Tuam, during 1742-52. Opposing doorways and cardinal windows cut through its preserved stone, inviting imagination about the servants who turned its mechanisms or the bishop who commissioned it. The stream below still moves while the mill waits, holding the shape of busy hands now forgotten.

On a ridge overlooking a stream, in NE suburbs of Tuam town (GA029-199----). Well-preserved shell of a circular three-storey windmill (D 3.7m) with opposing doorways at ENE and WSW. The 1st and 2nd floors are lit by four single-light rectangular windows at each of the cardinal points. According to local information, this windmill and a similar example (GA029-069----), which lies c. 870m to E, were constructed by Dr Hort, Bishop of Tuam between 1742-52.
