Old Sarum Castle

Old Sarum Castle was built by the Normans in the late 11th century, following the conquest of England in 1066. It is important as one of the earliest and most significant Norman castles in southern England, strategically controlling a key crossing point on the River Avon and serving as a royal stronghold and administrative centre.
