Ogham stone (present location)

What is recorded here

Five ogham stones from the church site of Kilgrovan (WA031-045001-) are presently displayed in the Buaille na gCuimhnte - Corner of Memories - exhibition at Mount Melleray Abbey. This stone (see WA031-045004-) has been recorded as slate (see dims. 1.8m x 0.53m; T 0.15m) and the inscription has been read by Macalister (1945, 283-4, no. 288) as: DEBRAN[I] MAQI ELTI [A]V[I] [O]GA[TO]S. However, he notes that many of the vowel notches, in particular, are lost and that missing letters have been 'restored by a consideration of the spaces available'. (Moore 1999, 1493) Compiled by: Nora White Date of upload: 9 August 2016
