Ogham stone (present location) in Newtown (clonbeg Par.)

In the grounds of the Aherlow House hotel, SE of the original hotel (built c. 1928) and S of the extension which is to the E of the old hotel. An upright red sandstone stone which is roughly rectangular in plan (dims. max. Wth 0.41m; max T 0.32m; H 1.38m above ground) and tapers towards the top (top Wth 0.15m). The stone was moved here from Mountrussell, near Kilfinnan, Co. Limerick (LI055-036----) in 1947 and is currently embedded upright in a flower bed in the grounds of the hotel. The ogham inscription is incised along the NW and SW edges of the stone and according to Macalister (1945, 254) reads: IVAGENI MAQI LAISCEMITA.
