Ogham stone in Tuckamine

Ogham stone

What is recorded here

Ogham stones mark burial grounds across Ireland, but this one rolls instead of standing. Its marks curve along a rounded surface rather than cutting a sharp edge, inviting fingers to trace what others argued about. If it came from Kilmagarvoge, it carried a dead name into Tuckamine before men could read it.
This stone was described and drawn by Price in 1938 (Notebook 17). The ogham inscription is on a 'rounded surface, not on an angle'. He suggested it read MUCU IBUCT and that it may have come from Kilmagarvoge burial ground (CW008-014----). Macalister read it as follows: MUCOI MUCC[I] (1945, 20, no. 17). The stone is now in the National Museum of Ireland (DU018-161----).(Brindley and Kilfeather 1993, no. 518) This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
