Knockrour holds a triangular stone five feet long, buried beside human bones and stripped of most of its name. The remaining marks suggest MAQI, a fragment of identity rather than a complete sentence. The stone vanished soon after discovery, leaving behind a hole where memory once stood.

According to Brash (1879, 133) a stone 'bearing a mutilated inscription' was found in 1856 in a burial ground (CO060-040002-) within an enclosure (CO060-040001-) at Knockrour (in fact the site straddles two townlands, the other being Oughtihery). He described the stones as '5 feet in length, and triangular in section, the sides being respectively 13, 12 and 10 inches' (ibid.); he gave the inscription as B..Q..... HAGA......DL; according to Macalister (1945, 111, no. 110) the first two letters may be the remains of MAQI. The stone was lost shortly after its discovery and nothing is now known of its whereabouts.
