Ogham Stone

Situated in a slight col between Carrigfenoagh Hill c. 500m to the N and a low rise c. 500m to the S. This is an Old Red Sandstone monolith was erected as a standing stone with a rectangular cross-section (dims. 0.75m x 0.4m; H 2m) oriented N-S. It has a pointed top which may be the result of an attempt to destroy the stone. An ogham inscription was added to the SE and SW angles. A break at the top of the stone may have resulted in the loss of letters (possibly a final vowel). It has been read by Macalister (1945, 293, no. 304) as VOCAGNI MAQI CUR(I)T.
