Newbattle Parish Church is associated with St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, a venerated 7th-century saint known for his piety and miracles. The site may have earlier monastic connections, as the nearby Newbattle Abbey, founded in the 12th century, was a Cistercian house dedicated to St Mary and St Cuthbert.
