What is recorded here

Rough Island in Stradreagh Beg held a crannog and occupation deposits spanning the Neolithic and Bronze Age, long before O'Cahan's garden gave the water a human name. People may have stood knee-deep in that lake, driving timber into mud or stacking stone against the bite of winter. The water kept their labour while memory forgot their names, turning a busy shoreline into a quiet anomaly beneath the grass.
