The maidens
Na Gruagaichean, part of the "Maidens" group in the Scottish Highlands, rises to approximately 838 meters and is composed mainly of Lewisian gneiss. The name, meaning "the grey-haired ones," reflects both their rugged, weathered appearance and the local folklore that personifies the hills as a group of women. The formation is significant for its ancient geology and its role in the cultural landscape of the Northwest Highlands.
