Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Mugdock, St Patrick's Well as Holy Well (medieval), Spring (nil Antiquity). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
St Patrick's Well at Mugdock is traditionally associated with St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and is believed to have been a site of pilgrimage and healing. Holy wells dedicated to St Patrick were often thought to possess curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and general wellness, and were visited on his feast day, 17 March.
