What is recorded here

In a graveyard c. 300m E of Moycullen Castle (GA068-044----). Densely overgrown and ruinous remains of a probable medieval church (E-W; L 16m, Wth 6.6m). There is a narrow single-light flat-headed window in E gable and a similar smaller one in the W gable. The N and S walls are almost destroyed. A carving of a stone head protrudes from the exterior of the W gable almost directly above the wndow. The curving graveyard wall appears to be modern. (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 163; Hardiman 1846, 55; Killanin 1947, 122) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of revision: 14 June 2012
