Mound in Pullagh

Mound

What is recorded here

Three ‘burial mounds’ were recorded in this townland in an area centred on ITM 532478, 703498 (pers. comm. T. Coffey, SMR file) and listed in the RMP (1996) under the SMR number CL006-085----. On inspection in 1997 there was no visible trace of the mounds at that location or in the surrounding area as outlined in the RMP, nor was there evidence of the site having been removed. It would appear that in this instance the locational information provided was incorrect due to a transfer from small to large scale mapping. The precise location remains uncertain but it is possible that the three monuments to the E (CL006-152----, CL006-153---- and CL006-154----) were the monuments in question. This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
