Mound in Lissycurrig

When the Kerry Field Club visited a bog in the above townland in 1945 (Vol 1, 617), they came across a large mound, the top of which had been cleared revealing a large irregularly shaped limestone flagstone. It was supported on seven uprights, 4 feet high. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Neolithic passage tomb; dates to the earlier part of the Neolithic period in Ireland (c. 3500–2500 BCE). The presence of a large limestone flagstone suggests a possible entrance or capstone, indicating ritual or burial significance.
