Knockaclarig hides a seven-foot mound beneath forested bog, though local memory still names it an Old Fort. The earth may have swallowed a small stronghold or simply risen from ancient feet, yet the slope and flat top remain locked inside the ground. Forgetting has not erased the shape, only moved it below the roots and rain.

In forested boggy ground, on gentle S-facing slope. No visible surface trace. Hachured on 1936 OS 6-inch map as mound (diam. c. 7m). Recorded as 'a small mound which some old residents of the district call an Old Fort' (diam. 7yd; H 3ft); section shows mound with sloping sides and flat top (c. 6ft across) (OS Field Memoranda 1933). A Neolithic or early Bronze Age mound; significance uncertain but may represent a funerary or ceremonial earthwork. Local tradition suggests possible later reinterpretation as a 'fort'.
