Ardnagragh Castle stood at the foot of Slievelogher in County Kerry, built by the Fitzgeralds according to local tradition. The name Ard na gCreach means height of the plunders, hinting that the castle existed to take rather than give. By 1841 the walls had collapsed into three clumps, and by 2011 even those had vanished beneath soil and grass. What remains is a castle that refused to be remembered, its stones scattered into the farms of ordinary people.

In his description of Kerry, 1687, Sir Richard Cox wrote the following; 'In this barony at the foot of Slievelogher stands the Castle of Arnagragh near which is to be found the best blackslatt in Ireland' (de Brún 1972, 5, 39). Site of castle described in 1942 as 'very little of this castle are to be seen, the remaining walls outline where the castle once stood. They bound the farms Jas. O'Sullivan and Patk. Sullivan' (ITA Survey). No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimages taken between 2011-13. Ardnagragh Castle site was described in 1841 as follows; 'It has been totally demolished, three clumps of the walls lie at the site. Ardnacrah is pronounced in Irish Ard na gCreach, and signifies the hill or height of the plunders. It is said the Fitzgeralds erected this castle' (O'Donovan 1989, 86-7).
