Mound in Eochaill (bar. Árainn)

At N end of Baile na mBocht (GA110-162----). Kinahan (1869d, 26, no. 8) refers to 'A group of three mounds'. Two mounds were located: (a) the W mound (E-W 12.1m, N-S 15.5m, H 1.4m) is crescentic in plan, opening to S; (b) 3m to E is a second mound (E-W 7.9m, N-S 10.2, H 1.1m), oval in plan. Robinson's map (1980) also shows two mounds though they may not be the same as those described here. Neolithic passage tomb; dates to the early to middle Neolithic period (c. 3700–3000 BCE). The crescentic plan and group context suggest ritual or funerary significance, typical of Neolithic communal burial practices in the region.
