Mound in Corrower

In undulating pasture, situated on a low rise. A low ridge blocks views to the E, but otherwise there are good views over the surrounding pastureland, with Nephin Mountain on the far horizon to WSW. Circular, flat-topped mound (8m E-W; 7.5m N-S; H 0.75m at W, 1.45m at E) of earth and stone, with the perimeter of the flat top defined by a slightly raised rim. Stone protrudes from the surface of the mound, some of which may be the result of field clearance. There is a shallow surface depression (diam. 2m) off centre to NW on top of the mound. Stones also protrude from the scarp, in parts resembling rough kerbing. The scarp to E is broadly slumped. The nature of this mound or cairn is uncertain. It is partly obscured by hawthorn, blackthorn and brambles, and it is difficult to determine if it is composed primarily of stone or earth. It has clearly been a focus for field clearance stones in recent years, but this may not be its primary function. An ogham stone (MA040-048----) is located c. 60m to N in the same field.
