Five years of farming on the Aran Islands revealed a shallow circular scar at the southern edge of the island, containing a smaller rectangular shadow that may have held a dead person or a living family. The earth has worn the answer smooth, leaving only a vague ring and a flat box-shaped gap in the grass. What is certain is that human hands shaped the soil, and time has erased the reason.

This monument came to light during the course of fieldwork on the AranLIFE Farming Project (2014-2018) (see www.aranlife.ie). It is located towards the S end of a subrectangular field close to the S end of the island. It consists of a low roughly circular poorly preserved mound (6.5m N-S; 6m E-W; H 0.2-0.3m) with ill-defined edges. Centrally located is a subrectangular area (3.3m by 2.5m) delimited by traces of possible stone kerbing. Locally it is believed to be a possible grave.
