No human has measured the underground passage said to run through the hill, yet the mound still stands beside the Mannin River with a narrow spine and slopes that lean like a sleeping animal. It is no wonder people called it a fairy hill, because the boundary between made and natural has blurred where water, soil and memory meet.

In pasture, in an expanse of flat damp pasture and bog adjacent to the Mannin River which flows out of Island Lake 230m to S. Elongated oblong rise or mound (c. 29m WNW-ESE; c. 17m NNE-SSW; H c. 2m) with an rather irregular and dilapidated appearance. The top of the mound forms a narrow relatively flat spine (Wth c. 2-3m) which grades into a well defined, steep slope on the S side and a gradual, slumped slope on the N side. The mound has the appearance of a natural feature, and appears to be composed of fine gravel/sand. It is sod-covered and dotted with hawthorn and blackthorn bushes. A heap of dredging upcast from the river abuts the mound at S. The mound is known locally as a ‘fairy hill’ and is said to contain a Man-made underground passage (MA093-020002-) (Pers. comm. B.
