What is recorded here

Six pillars lay buried in the centre of a Galway field before men levelled the mound and forgot what they had broken. The earth swallowed the markers, the markers vanished from memory, and the field became ordinary again. What those pillars held upright in the dark is gone, but the shape of the loss remains: a room without walls, a grave without a name, a chamber of six lights snuffed by a spade.

In undulating farmland. The OS 6-inch maps show a large subcircular field (c. 100m by c. 90m) on S boundary of the td., the NW quadrant of which is occupied by farm buildings. Little of it now survives and the remaining sections comprise only slightly curving modern boundaries. According to local information, there was a 'mound' in the centre of this field which when levelled was found to contain 'six pillars', possibly marking a 'grave'. No visible surface trace survives.
