Mound in Cahermacon

On a low hillock on the floor of an E-W valley in pasture. A roughly triangular-shaped grass-covered mound of earth with some stone visible. The mound is flat topped (dims. at top L 4.6m at W; L 5.7m at NE; L 5.8m SE; dims. at base L 9.8m at W; L 11.4 at NE; L 9.6 at SE) and varies in height (H 1.2-1.5m). Its edges are eroded and this may be due to the presence of livestock in the field. According to local information, it was always here and was known as ‘the moat’.
