Thirty feet of wet earth rise beside the castle, shallow enough to walk across yet old enough to have watched the castle grow. The mound may have marked a boundary, buried a body or simply collected soil from repeated human traffic. Its shallow shape suggests patience rather than grandeur, the kind of place where ordinary lives accumulated until they became visible.
