Dundonald Motte rises in the Church Quarter as a medieval earthwork, perhaps hiding a man-made passage beneath its soil. The mound has watched the quarter grow, maybe guiding people through darkness or simply marking power. Its shape still belongs to the town, even when the street forgets the hands that built it.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MOTTE & possible Man-made underground passage: DUNDONALD MOTTE. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; MEDIEVAL. Recorded protection: Scheduled.
