Freestanding limestone cenotaph, erected c.1811, set at roadside, with dedication to Bridget Derrane who died 1811 and her daughter Julia Derrane who died 1868. Comprises rubble plinth with roughly dressed coping surmounted by cross having margined terminals and further carving to top. Front face has two-tier arrangement of inscribed limestone plaques, with quarter-arc of sun's rays to upper corners of both plaques. Upper plaque also has inscribed cross, and lower has IHS motif and cross inscribed within circle having chevron detail to edge and with vegetal decoration flanking and below.

This cenotaph is one of a remarkable series of distinctive memorials on Árainn, erected to the memory of local individuals who died in the nineteenth century. The combination of rubble limestone walling and inscribed plaques provides an interesting textural contrast. It is the most decorative of the cenotaphs in the group and is also the earliest.
