What is recorded here
In low-lying pasture. Rectangular area (35.5m N-S; 31.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1m) with external fosse (D 2m). Fosse waterlogged, infilled in parts. Entrance to SSW. Field boundary (H 1.3m) immediately outside bank to W and N may incorporate second bank; Hartnett (1939, 261) suggests that 'alternative zones of wet and dry soils' to E and S provide evidence for second bank and fosse on these sides.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
