Moated site in Rathclittagh

Situated on ENE face of a gentle slope on poorly drained reclaimed grassland with Inny River 170m to E. Moated site (WM011-002---) 155m to SSE. Not depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. A stream which marks the boundary with the townland of Bardanstown is 114m to SSE. Present remains consist of a sub-triangular shaped area (approx. dims. 27m N-S; 17m NE-SW) enclosed by a well preserved earthen bank and external fosse. There are several small disturbance gaps in the bank. There is a causewayed entrance gap (Wth 1.8m) at the S tip of the enclosure. The NW part of the interior is lower than the rest of the interior and is separated from it by a low earthen bank running NW-SE. See attached plan of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.
