Kilbolane Castle and a possible second moated site bracket the Deel River, suggesting a small defensive cluster rather than a lonely exception. The main rectangle measures thirty by twenty-four metres, with a ten-metre-wide fosse reaching 1.4m deep on three sides and a banked eastern edge. A four-metre gap at the north-west corner may have been the entrance, forcing visitors to approach along the vulnerable western slope instead of crossing open ground.

In pasture, on W-facing slope, c. 100m to E of Deel River and c. 600m SSE of Milford. Rectangular area (30m N-S; 24m E-W) enclosed by fosse (Wth c. 10m; D 1.4m) on S, W and N sides and by bank (int. H 0.75m; ext. H 1m) and external fosse (D 1m) on E side; counterscarp bank (H 0.4m) on S, W and most of E side. Possible entrance (Wth 4m) at NW corner. Listed by Barry (1981, 83, no. 42).
