What is recorded here

Craans keeps a rectangular shadow beside its mill, wide enough for a small house but thin enough to hide beneath orchard roots. The moat may have flooded that box during storms, forcing whoever lived there to climb stairs or wade water while neighbours watched dry land. Apples still drop where the entry gate perhaps stood, turning a forgotten defense into a sweet, damp trap for anyone who walks there at dusk.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Shown on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map as rectangular enclosure (max. dims. c. 30m N-S, 40m E-W) within orchard beside mill. No visible surface traces. Possibly a moated site.
