Clogheen hides a square moated enclosure in pasture, c. 100m west of Abbey stream. Two earthen banks, one 1.4m high and the other 2.1m high, surround a level interior whose southern part is wet and marshy. Briars and bushes now choke the ditch and banks, but the stone-facing on the outer bank still marks the care taken to build a defensible, water-fed threshold in the Cork countryside.

In pasture, c. 100m W of Abbey stream. Square area (40.1m E-W; 39m N-S) enclosed by two earthen banks with intervening fosse. Inner bank (int. H1.4m) levelled along S half of E side and on S side. Outer bank (H 2.1m) levelled along W half of S side. Stone-facing noted to NNE on outer faceof second bank. Interior appears level; S portion wet and marshy; drain running E-W crosses S half of interior. Enclosure heavily overgrown with bushes and briars.
