Moatabower is a quarried earth mound in County Carlow, Ireland, possibly a burial place or a fortress motte. It still stands four metres high though its eastern edge has vanished under repeated digging. The loss suggests people took the mound apart for useful soil while forgetting whether it once held a dead king or a living guard.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Originally circular, steep-sided mound (H 4m, original max. diam. c. 40m) of earth. Quarried extensively from E. Could be either motte or burial mound, both of which occur in this area.

A portal dolmen; likely dates to the Early Bronze Age. Its significance lies in representing a rare megalithic monument type in the region, reflecting early ceremonial or funerary practices.
