Mingary Castle's cannon is a broken cast-iron muzzle loader, about 1.8m long, now set outside the castle's inland entrance after lying on the beach until 2004. Its muzzle tip is gone, its cascabel button is missing, and only a touch hole and a square indent remain visible on its corroded body. It may belong to the castle, the Spanish attack of 1588, or some forgotten sea journey, but it is no longer pointing at a known enemy.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Mingary Castle, Cannon as Cannon (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Mingary Castle, including its cannon, was built by the MacDougall clan in the 14th century, likely to control the strategic Mingary peninsula and guard against English or pirate incursions. It is remembered as a key stronghold of the Lords of the Isles and for its dramatic cliffside location.
