Mine in Grallagh Lower,grallagh Upper

Mine

What is recorded here

It is thought that Sir Walter Raleigh operated a mine at Grallagh c. 1600, but there is no recored of the Earl of Cork operating them subsequently (Power 1978, 32-3). The mines were worked again betweem 1850 and 1860. There is no evidence of mine-working at Grallagh, and if evidence of the Raleigh workings survive they are unlocated. Power, T. (1978a) Richard Boyle’s ironworks in Co. Waterford. Part 2. Decies, No. 7, 30-36. Date of upload: 10th October, 2011 Compiled by: Michael Moore
