Mine complex identified, post inventory fieldwork, by Dr. William O'Brien, NUI, Galway (pers. comm. 26.6.1998). Site is not indicated on the 1st (1840) or 2nd (1901-5) ed. OS 6-inch map. The mine is referred to by Kinahan as 'Garrykennedy was a very ancient mine, stone and wood implements, &c., having been found in the "Old Men's Workings". Dr. O'Brien visited the site in January 1996 and found a number of extant mine workings of unknown age still surviving. Reference: Kinahen, G.H.
