Millmoor is recorded as a named stadium in Rotherham. It is mapped for football. The point is the centre supplied by the public map.
Millmoor was Rotherham United's football home from the club's formation in 1925 until a lease dispute forced departure in 2008. Built from an older local ground beside railway and industrial land, its stands, terraces and floodlights remain largely intact but unused for senior league football, preserving an uncommon paused stadium and generations of town memory.
What this place is
Millmoor is an enclosed football ground near central Rotherham, developed beside railway lines and factories before becoming Rotherham United's home.
People and events
Players and supporters used it from the new club's first season in 1925 until disagreement with the ground's owners led the team to leave in 2008.
How it was used
League and cup matches filled terraces and stands, while improvements added roofs, floodlights, seating and service rooms within a very confined site.
What survives
The pitch, main stands, covered terraces, lights and narrow approaches survive, maintained but largely silent after the first team moved elsewhere.
Why it mattered
Millmoor mattered because the old ground carried most of Rotherham United's history and now unusually preserves the form of a departed league stadium.
