Mill

Mill, unclassified

What is recorded here

Listed in both the SMR (1989) and RMP (1995) and classified as 'Earthworks(s)' and 'Mill Race' respectively. In undulating pasture, on a gentle NE-facing slope near the SW bank of a stream. The foundations of a wedge-shaped structure (16m NE-SW; 10m SE-NW at NE end; 6m at SW end) are evident as low grass-covered earth and stone banks (Wth 1.8m; ext. H 1.1m; int. H 0.9m). A silted up millrace (Wth 1.8m; D 0.5m) can be traced for c. 300m to NW. The millrace runs around the SW end of the mill curving around a central low island (4m x 3m) at the S corner and then NE along the SE side of the mill. The tailrace runs NE for a short distance where it re-enters the small stream. Streamstown House (SL032-085----) is c. 100m to S. This is probably post-1700 AD in date.
